If MoodyWatch shows "No data", there's no need to worry. It means Apple Watch and Apple Health haven't provided enough new data yet for MoodyWatch to complete today's analysis.
MoodyWatch's stress and state analysis depends on HRV, heart rate, and other health data collected by Apple Watch. If those haven't been generated, synced, or authorized yet, a new day can temporarily show no data. The checks below cover the most common reasons.
1. First: it's usually "no new data yet"
MoodyWatch doesn't auto-generate a full day's results at midnight. After a new day starts, you need Apple Watch to keep sampling fresh data throughout the day for MoodyWatch to fill in today's state.
- An empty start to a new day is possible
- If the watch is worn normally and sampling is healthy, data usually fills in over time
- If data is missing for a long stretch, follow the next steps
2. Check that MoodyWatch has Health permissions
MoodyWatch needs permission from Apple Health to read HRV, heart rate, and related data. Incomplete permissions can cause missing data for the day or prevent analysis from updating.
On iPhone
iPhone Settings β Privacy & Security β Health β MoodyWatch. We recommend tapping "Turn All On" so all health categories are authorized.
On Apple Watch
Apple Watch Settings β Health β Apps β MoodyWatch. Same recommendation: turn everything on.
Why we need these permissions
MoodyWatch reads your health data to:
- Detect stress state
- Count stress moments
- Offer personalized suggestions
- Show how your state shifts during the day
To be clear: this data is used locally for product features only. Your health data stays on your device β we don't upload it.
3. Have you been wearing Apple Watch consistently?
This one is common and easy to miss. Any of these can lead to no data for a new day:
- You've just started using Apple Watch or just got a new one
- You haven't worn your watch for a while
- You haven't actively used Apple Watch for the past six months or longer
- The watch is worn too loose, so readings are incomplete
- A new day has just begun and there aren't enough HRV / heart rate data points yet
MoodyWatch's analysis is built on top of what Apple Watch has sampled. Without new HRV or heart rate records in the system, we can't produce today's result.
What to do
Try to wear Apple Watch consistently for at least half a day, with the watch snug against your wrist, so the system has enough time to collect data.
4. Want data sooner? Trigger an HRV reading manually
If you want to see the latest HRV as soon as possible, you can use Apple Watch's Mindfulness breathing to help get a reading.
How to do it
- Open the Mindfulness app on Apple Watch
- Choose Breathe
- Select 3 minutes or longer
- Stay quiet, wear the watch firmly, avoid frequent movement
- After finishing, wait a moment and check MoodyWatch again
5. Long periods of not wearing the watch will show no data
If you haven't worn or used Apple Watch in a long time, the system won't have enough recent health data. In that case MoodyWatch can't provide recent HRV stress analysis, and that's normal.
In short:
- No new watch data
- β No new stress analysis
- Start wearing again and let the system build up data before analysis returns to normal
6. Still showing "No data" after wearing consistently?
If you've worn Apple Watch properly and the page still says "No data," check in order:
- Has MoodyWatch been granted Apple Health access?
- Phone: iPhone Settings β Privacy & Security β Health β MoodyWatch β Turn All On
- Watch: Apple Watch Settings β Health β Apps β MoodyWatch β Turn All On
- Have you been wearing the watch consistently?
- Has it been worn during the day today?
- If you've only worn it briefly recently, try wearing it for at least half a day
- Check fit: snug against the wrist, not too loose
- Has new health data been generated? β In iPhone Health app, check if new heart rate / HRV entries have appeared
- Can Mindfulness help generate a new HRV entry? β Open Apple Watch Mindfulness β Breathe, do a session of 3+ minutes, then check again
7. When to wait vs. when to investigate
Fine to wait
- A new day just started
- You just put the watch on today
- You didn't wear it last night and it's still early in the day
- You just granted permissions and the system is still syncing
These cases usually recover on their own shortly.
Worth investigating
- You've worn the watch consistently but there's been no data all day
- Health permissions aren't fully granted
- The iPhone Health app also shows no new heart rate or HRV
- Mindfulness sessions don't produce new data either
In these cases, focus on permissions, wear, and whether the system is generating new health data at all.
