If you want to pull in the latest HRV reading right now, you can trigger a manual measurement through the built-in Mindfulness app on Apple Watch. Here's the recommended flow.
Steps
1. Open Mindfulness on Apple Watch
On your Apple Watch, open Mindfulness, then choose Breathe. For a more stable reading, we recommend 3 minutes or more.
2. Start, then stay quiet and still
Once you tap start, keep your body and wrist as still as you can:
- Make sure the watch is worn correctly, snug against your wrist
- Try not to move around or shake your wrist
- Breathe quietly and naturally
- You don't have to strictly follow the breathing animation
3. Lock and unlock your iPhone afterward
When the session ends, lock your iPhone once, then unlock it. This helps the system refresh health data sync.
4. Wait about a minute
After the steps above, give it about a minute and MoodyWatch should pick up the new HRV reading and display it.
A gentle note
Because Apple Watch and Health data sync are affected by system behavior, sometimes the reading won't come through immediately even after a breathing session.
If your data doesn't show up right away, put the phone down, come back a little later, and check again. It's usually just sync lag, not a malfunction.
Tips for better results
To get HRV readings that are actually useful, try to measure when:
- You're sitting or resting quietly
- Your mood and breathing are relatively steady
- You're not right after exercise, walking, coffee, or in an obviously tense moment
Readings taken this way usually reflect your actual state more faithfully.
Recap
To get the latest HRV reading quickly:
- Open Mindfulness → Breathe on Apple Watch
- Choose 3 minutes or more
- Stay quiet, wear the watch firmly, breathe naturally
- Lock and unlock your iPhone afterward
- Wait about a minute and check MoodyWatch
If you just want a single fresh reading, the steps above are the most direct route. That said, we also recommend wearing the watch regularly. Here's why:
- A single HRV reading reflects your current state
- MoodyWatch analysis doesn't look only at a single reading — it also considers your overall changes over time
- The longer you wear it, the more complete the data, and the more accurately we can build your personal HRV baseline
